Tristan’s Folly. An ageing fortress built over fifty years ago to repel the invading hordes of the Witch-King, Daleth, an invasion that never materialised – until now.

Now the stronghold is a crumbling reflection of its former might, with a mere fifteen hundred men all that stands between Daleth’s savage horde of a hundred thousand, and certain doom for the Freestates.

As Kings and Daemons face one another, there is but one shining light that pushes back the encroaching darkness, but even her flame is slated to be extinguished thanks to Tristan’s Folly.

In this epic tale of a battle against the odds, the best and worst of humankind collide … sacrifice, bravery and love, set against betrayal, greed and hatred.

This book was received from the Author, and Publisher, in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.

This is a non spoiler review, because you as reader need to read this book. Also, I feel sometimes I have in the past gave away to much of the plot line. This has diminished the pleasure for would be readers

This compelling book Tristan’s Folly, is next installment in The Gifted and the Cursed book series by the author Marcus Lee.

Tristan’s Folly is another dark action packed fantasy, with intense battle scenes. That will have have you anxiously craving the next book in this trilogy, from the very talented author Marcus Lee.

The novel starts off soon after Kings & Daemons, so if you haven’t read the first book in this trilogy, what are you waiting for.? This series is must read for fantasy reader.

The storyline is well paced with reveals that come at just the right time, the author’s narration flows effortlessly and smoothly. Making this book a fast read, and one that I completely inhaled. A thrill ride of a book where the writing is detailed and you find yourself front and center. Make sure set aside some reading time, because once you start you will not be able to put this book down.

Marcus Lee characterization is phenomenal, The reader is not only given insightful perspective of the thoughts and feelings of the protagonist. He has expanded the playing field to give us the main antagonist, Daleth the Witch-King thoughts and feelings. The novel is fantasy, but theme is definitely character development.

I was astounded by the slow but sure changes being made in each character throught process. They were realistic, with cause and effect brought on by the environment the dilemmas, the characters find themselves in.. What immediately grabbed my attention in this story was the complexity of the characters. All characters were raw, honest, and flawed. There so many twists and you will be questioning everyone’s motives.

As the tale unfolds Daleth, the Witch-King seeks nothing more than an absolute conquest of the Freestates. As he lays siege against the aging fortress of the Freestates. The intensity rises and you find yourself on the edge of your seat.

The fight sequences are well depicted and action is nail biting. I have to say I was impressed with the author ability to switch back and forth from the key characters during the advanced fight scenes. The fortress siege was executed perfectly and its dramatic. Lee expands the magic system more in this book, which I was delighted to see. They are some of our old friends from the first book and you get to meet some new ones in this sequel.

I was completely satisfied with the ending and I thought the author handle everything down to the very ending superbly.

I am highly anticipating the last book in this captivating trilogy!!

Have a wonderful day

Writing hasn’t always been a serious hobby for me … but it has always been there, lurking in the shadows, serving me well when called upon.

As I look back over the years, I realise I was guilty of writing many short stories, as well as poetry, and I’d like to think, that even if they were never intended to be published, they were nonetheless warmly received by the intended recipients.

Then in 2019, I was inspired to write not just a short story, or poetry, but a book. Then, suddenly, one book turned into a trilogy and a labour of love, and it was a love I wanted to share with the world.

So, here we are. The pandemic that put my career in sport on hold also gave me the opportunity to lavish time on my alternative hobby, or if demand dictates my new career.

However, only you, the reader, will decide whether this trilogy, which is still a work in progress, will be the first of many. I genuinely hope so.

Who knows, now these creatives juices are flowing, I might just keep on writing anyway.

Epic fantasy has been my favourite genre since I first read The Odyssey and The Illiad as a seven-year-old. Now it’s my turn to see if I can bring another world to life in the imagination of others.
