Real life and fairy tales collide in Never After: The Thirteenth Fairy, book one in the new middle-grade Never After series from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Descendants series, Melissa de la Cruz.
Nothing ever happens in Filomena Jefferson-Cho’s sleepy little suburban town of North Pasadena. The sun shines every day, the grass is always a perfect green, and while her progressive school swears there’s no such thing as bullying, she still feels bummed out. But one day, when Filomena is walking home on her own, something strange happens.
Filomena is being followed by Jack Stalker, one of the heroes in the Thirteenth Fairy, a series of books she loves about a brave girl and her ragtag group of friends who save their world from an evil enchantress. She must be dreaming, or still reading a book. But Jack is insistent—he’s real, the stories are real, and Filomena must come with him at once!
Soon, Filomena is thrust into the world of evil fairies and beautiful princesses, sorcerers and slayers, where an evil queen drives her ruthless armies to destroy what is left of the Fairy tribes. To save herself and the kingdom of Westphalia, Filomena must find the truth behind the fairytales and set the world back to rights before the cycle of sleep and destruction begins once more.

This book was received from the Author, and Publisher, in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.
This is a non spoiler review, because you as reader need to read this book. Also, I feel sometimes I have in the past gave away to much of the plot line. This has diminished the pleasure for would be readers
Melissa De La Cruz has written a spectacular middle grade fantasy. The main protagonists Filomena is easy to relate to, she is vulnerable and struggles with insecurities.
Filomena will find herself in a world of fairy tales, ogres, fairies, and magic. In this stunning ya fantasy adventure.
The Thirteenth Fairy, book one in the new middle-grade Never After series from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Descendants series, Melissa de la Cruz.
Readers will follows a young girl Filomena Jefferson-Cho of North Pasadena.
Is likable young girl who struggles with extensive bullying at school, that seems to go completely unchecked by the teacher and principal. I definitely can relate to this and I am sure there are so many others that will find a kindred spirt in this delightful girl.
She is a reader who’s both parents happen to well known writers. She also happens to be obsessed and collects the Never After book series.
When the 13th and final book is due to be released, she asked her overly protective parents to allow her to purchase the book from a book store on the way home from school.
However, once at the bookstore Filomena, along with a large number of other kids are told for some unknown reason the book hasn’t been published… and to make matters worse the Author is missing! Felling deflated while on her way home from the bookstore. Her world collides with that of the book series she adores so much. When to characters from the series appear, and an almost disastrous attack leaves her questioning every thing. She find herself sweat away from her everyday life and into the world of fairytales.
This was such a great middle school book, one that I enjoyed immensely! The writing flows seamlessly and the characters come to life under Melissa de la Cruz‘s precision narration. It’s a faced paced adventure that as an adult I was completely captivated by.
I highly recommend this book to my family and friends!
This going to make a great Christmas present to my grandchildren.
