The last thing Barclay Thorne ever wanted was an adventure.

But then Barclay accidentally breaks his town’s most sacred rule: never ever EVER stray into the Woods, for within the Woods lurk vicious magical Beasts.
To Barclay’s horror, he faces a fate far worse than being eaten: he unwittingly bonds with a Beast and is run out of town by an angry mob. Determined to break this bond and return home, Barclay journeys to find the mysterious town of Lore Keepers, people who have also bonded with Beasts and share their powers.
But after making new friends, entering a dangerous apprenticeship exam, and even facing the legendary Beast of the Woods, Barclay must make a difficult choice: return to the home and rules he’s always known, or embrace the adventure awaiting him.

This book was received from the Author, and Publisher, in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.
This is a non spoiler review, because you as reader need to read this book. Also, I feel sometimes I have in the past gave away to much of the plot line. This has diminished the pleasure for would be readers.
The Accidental Apprentice (Wilderlore #1) by Amanda Foody is an exceptional middle grade fantasy novel. It’s a rich rewarding reading experience that has all the beloved classical elements that makes for an amazing adventure.
Eleven year old Barclay Thorne’s parents passed away from an attack by an otherworldly Beast seven years ago. Labeled a troubled maker, he has never really fit in. He is an apprentice to a mushroom farmer, and tries really hard to do good and work hard. He struggles under the many rules that his fellow people of Dullshire are obliged to follow. His adventurous side, eventually wins over, and his non-conformity eventually gets into all kinds of trouble. The locals are all about following the Lore Keepers, those who bond with Beasts and practice Lore magic.
So in a series of events Barclay finds himself in the mysterious forbidden woods. There he meets and bonds with a wolffish like beast. He finds herself ultimately banished from the only home he is ever known.
Scared and alone, Barclay sets off an adventure looking to free himself from this unwanted bonding, he travels to a different town. Here he encounters, a makes true friendships with several different characters.
The author has done a superb job in creating stunning characters that you can relate to and are invested into their lives. Foody’s seamless narration, is quick paced, and yo find yourself thrown right into a beautiful, vivid and established world with fully fleshed out characters, along with an exceptional atmospheric imagery. This is one middle grade fantasy books that have some really good creative twists that I didn’t see coming. The side characters are wonderfully depicted and. I loved their backstories.
I am over the moon excited for the next installment in the captivating magical storyline. I highly recommend this book to my family and friends.!
